Tips for Home Maintenance

Aluminium Windows Maintenance

Recently, accidents occurred involving falling aluminium windows has raised public concern over the maintenance of the aluminium window. An intact aluminium window consists of six parts ¡V fixing lugs, water proof cement, frames, glass panes, water proof sealants and hinges. To ensure the safety, security and waterproof of the aluminium windows, you need to have the knowledge of the various parts and its maintenance.

General Maintenance Guidelines:
1.
Fixing lugs and water proof cement ¡V Fixing lugs and water proof cement should be securely and rigidly fixed in place to window openings in walls. If the concrete surround and the water proof cement between the window frames and walls are not properly applied, rainwater will seep into the flat leading to problems of water leakage. When repair, the water proof sealant surround the sashes and between the wall should be removed to check the cement inside for further proper repair or grouting.
2.
Frames and glass panes ¡V Check the window frames and sashes for deformation, insecurity or serious aging, especially for openable windows not opened for a long time. Do not open them with excessive force. Ensure the rigidity of the frames first. Any cracked glass panes should be replaced at once with the same type and thickness of glass. Should any of the aluminium angles for securing the glass panes be found missing, replacement must be done at once to avoid falling of glass panes.

3.
Water proof sealants and hinges ¡V these two kinds of components are deteriorating fast. They should be regularly checked or replaced for any loose fixings, rusting, deformation, cleared of dust and dirt to avoid friction causing undue load on the fixing. Locking devises of window sashes should be replaced if they cannot function properly. Otherwise, damage may result in typhoon.

Lastly, owners should appoint qualified and reputed contractors to carry out maintenance and replacement of aluminium windows, and monitor the working progress with the tips mentioned above.
